The Program Coordinator: TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) works in close collaboration to develop, plan, and implement high-impact support services designed to increase academic performance, retention, and degree completion for program participants. This role coordinates with department team members to oversee and assess first- and second-year programming and service delivery.

Serves as primary advisor/counselor of record for program participants, providing proactive, high-touch engagement using the Appreciative Advising framework to support student growth and development.

Collaborate with Academic Specialists and Administrative Assistant/Data Specialist in executing the SSS strategic plan to exceed program goals and objectives.

Conducts applicant intake interviews, prepares needs assessments, and develops Individualized Support Plans (ISP) for each participant.

Provides personal, academic, and financial counseling on both an individual and group basis.

Assists with the implementation of personal development and career awareness seminars, including the identification and coordination of guest speakers and dedicated events.

Establishes and maintains a confidential counseling record system for each participant, ensuring files and monitoring reports are current and accurate.

Plans and implements educational and cultural enrichment programs that enhance student learning and engagement.

Develops and facilitates workshops or seminars on targeted areas such as study skills, transfer planning, and financial aid literacy.

Utilizes technology to strengthen programming, communication, and service delivery.

Maintains compliance with federal TRIO regulations and ensures all participants meet eligibility requirements.

Prepare reports and updates for the Director to confirm participant’s progress and adherence to program guidelines.

Assists the Director in providing in-service training for both new and current program staff.

Effectively utilizes Management Information Systems (e.g., Blumen, Watermark, Colleague) to inform decisions and track outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field; at least three (3) years of experience working with academically underprepared or first generation students.

Preferred Qualifications Experience working with federal TRIO Programs

Work Environment Primarily on-campus, student-facing role in office, classroom, and workshop spaces with frequent meetings across campus and with campus partners; Mix of individual advising and group programming; occasional virtual meetings, webinars, and online service delivery; Requires strict adherence to confidentiality (FERPA) and federal TRIO SSS guidelines.

Physical Demands Prolonged periods of sitting for advising, documentation, and computer work; frequent standing/walking for workshops, events, and campus errands; ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs and push/pull a cart of supplies on occasion; Visual acuity and manual dexterity for data entry, document review, and use of office/presentation equipment; Clear verbal communication for one-on-one and group facilitation; Occasional stair climbing and movement between buildings/parking areas; driving to partner sites may be required (valid driver’s license may be needed).

Normal Working Hours Standard schedule, Monday – Friday; with a flexible schedule to meet participant availability and event needs; Evenings and occasional weekends required for recruitment, workshops, and community events; Schedule adjustments coordinated to meet grant goals, reporting deadlines, and program priorities.
