About The Job We seek a highly motivated Senior Associate to primarily support the Real Estate Equity team in bringing hands‑on experience underwriting, structuring, and executing direct and indirect real estate investments, with a deep understanding of asset‑level and portfolio‑level performance drivers. This role provides exposure to a diverse range of real estate asset classes and capital structures within an institutional environment. The candidate will support strategic management of existing deals while helping source and execute on new investment opportunities. While the focus will be on the Real Estate Equity side of Kawa’s business, the ideal candidate will work collaboratively with Kawa’s investment team across real estate credit and liquid strategies.
Responsibilities
Conduct detailed underwriting and financial modeling for equity investments in commercial real estate across asset classes (multifamily, industrial, office, hospitality, etc.).
Analyze market trends, lease structures, capital expenditure requirements, and debt financing assumptions.
Support the investment team in evaluating new acquisitions, joint ventures, recapitalizations, and development opportunities.
Prepare investment memos and materials for internal investment committee presentations.
Collaborate with external partners (operating partners, brokers, consultants) and internal stakeholders (legal, operations) throughout the transaction process.
Monitor and manage existing investments, including reviewing performance, business plan execution, and valuation updates.
Maintain and enhance internal models, dashboards, and tracking tools.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Familiarity with hedge funds or alternative investment firm workflows and expectations.
Ability to think creatively and identify abilities to contribute to the investment team.
Superior attention to detail, analytical rigor, and ability to think critically about investment risk/return.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Skills and Experience
Four to six years of experience in real estate private equity, investment banking, or institutional real estate investment roles.
Experience working in a lean team environment or an entrepreneurial investment platform.
Exposure to both stabilized and opportunistic real estate strategies.
Demonstrated expertise in underwriting real estate equity transactions (acquisitions and/or development).
Strong financial modeling skills in Excel; familiarity with Argus is a plus.
Deep understanding of capital markets, real estate valuation, and investment structures.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field.
