The Sales Tax Accountant, as part of the Sales and Use Tax Group (Indirect Tax Team), reporting to the Compliance Lead, will be responsible for completing return filings, ensuring compliance within established administrative policies, state regulations, and acceptable accounting practices.
Responsibilities
Compile source data for sales/use tax and property tax returns and reconcile to the general ledger for all legal entities (50 states and Canada).
Review compliance payments and reconcile to the payable accounts, ensuring all liabilities are paid accurately.
Complete compliance return filings include business licenses, gross receipts tax, personal property tax, Puerto Rico withholding, and sales/use tax returns.
Ensure financial reports are prepared and paid accurately and timely to avoid penalties.
Review sales/use tax and property tax returns completed by third parties for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure compliance within established administrative policies, state regulations and acceptable accounting practices.
Assist with sales tax audit requests and appeals, working with business units, customers, third party consultants and state auditors.
Pull and request exemption certificates as needed (as per specific state requirements).
Perform tax research and document tax position.
Identify and implement process improvements in the Indirect Tax department.
Qualifications and Requirements
Min Bachelors’ degree in Accounting and/or Finance or related field
Min 3 years’ experience in accounting
min 1 year work experience in Sales and Use Tax in various states
Knowledge of SOX controls & compliance and an understanding of GAAP Accounting
Business Intelligence/Business Warehouse expertise
