Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a
Instructional Support Assistant, Core Laboratory (per-diem)
in the Department of Laboratories is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Will maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and conducts oneself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a Instructional Support Assistant, Core Laboratory (per-diem)
in the Department of Laboratories may include the following but are not limited to:
Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, assist in calling critical test results to healthcare providers through the Sunquest LIS Critical Calling Modular.
Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, review daily Lab QA reports to ensure all critical results are properly called and documented. Discrepancies are brought to the attention of the SL-4 or senior Technologist.
Assist in regulatory-mandated inventory control by tracking Core Lab reagent lot numbers and expiration dates; issues are reported to the SL-4/Bench Supervisor or senior Technologist.
Centrifuge, aliquot, and distribute biological specimens to maintain specimen integrity and comply with safety regulations.
Maintain records of laboratory reports, such as temperature charts, eye washes, and maintenance logs per regulatory standards.
Provide backup support in Core Lab stat service and serve as a runner transporting specimens within the Core Lab and between the Core Lab and MART building.
Assist in Correlation and Linearity Studies by entering collected data into Excel worksheets for analysis and plotting.
Qualifications Required:
Associate's Degree or equivalent college credits. Preferred:
Prior clinical laboratory experience. Prior experience in an academic medical center.
