Job Summary The Sterile Processing and Decontamination (SPD) Technician is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and Ancillary departments. This includes working in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays and case carts where applicable. The SPD Technician maintains consistency and continuous workflow between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.
What you will do
Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers and equipment according to established protocols. Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning. Maintain quality control by monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting, all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function. Works closely with Operating Room staff to identify supply and equipment needs for the scheduled procedures Corrects instrument sets according to current standards and established count sheets and/or instrument tracking systems. Education Qualifications
High School Diploma and/or GED High School diploma Required Experience Qualifications
1-3 years Instrument processing or sterile processing experience, or previous work experience in the medical field (i.e. CNA, MA, etc.) Preferred Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills and behaviors Ability to form work/patient relationships with patients and peers Ability to prioritize work and meet changing demands Fosters teamwork through effective written and verbal communication Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner Licenses and Certifications
CPR/Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification issued by American Heart Association Upon Hire Required Physical Demands
