The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces adjunct and adjunct university supervisor faculty positions in Urban Teacher Education. Programs in the Division of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies (TE&CS) provide a full range of CAEP and State of Missouri accredited programs leading to certification in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, Secondary, K-12 and Special Education. The professionals selected for this position will join a collaborative and dedicated faculty who emphasize excellence in education at all levels in the context of the School of Education’s commitment to urban education, differing backgrounds and experiences. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. THE INTENT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY A POOL OF ADJUNCT FACULTY IN THE DIVISION OF TEACHER EDUCATION AND CURRICULUM STUDIES. Major Responsibilities May Include

Teaching or assisting in teaching courses in initial teacher certification

Supervise and observe all assigned teacher candidates in their field and/or clinical experience(s)

Assess candidate teaching performance during field and/or clinical experience(s)

Complete electronic observation forms to document candidate performance

Document plan of action/interventions used to assist candidate in developing knowledge, skills and dispositions

May include teaching a linking seminar course that reinforces knowledge, skills and dispositions from field and clinical experiences

Provide constructive support, suggestions and recommendations to assist the candidate’s growth and development

Demonstrate and reflect knowledge of effective instructional practices for differing classrooms

Maintain individual candidate documentation and confidentiality

Serve as a liaison between the university and practicum site while promoting and sustaining positive relationships with the Cooperating Mentor Teacher(s), teacher candidates, principal and university faculty

Respond to email, phone calls, questions and other inquiries in a timely manner

Participate in Seminars as requested

Participate in regularly scheduled university supervisor, program and/or adjunct faculty meetings

Travel significantly in the metro Kansas City region

Communicates clearly in a timely manner issues and/or concerns regarding candidate performance to faculty and the Coordinator of Field Experiences

Demonstrate knowledge, skills and dispositions that clearly align with the School of Education mission, vision and values

Other duties as assigned

This position is Part Time and not eligible for benefits. Hours vary depending on the opportunity. Contracts are generally issued on a semester-by-semester basis

Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Education (Specific content areas include: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle School and Secondary Math, Social Studies, Language Arts/English/Literacy and/or Multicultural Education)

A Specialist or Doctoral degree in Education preferred

At least three years of successful PK-12 public school experience as a classroom teacher or equivalent in an urban setting (at least 5 years for some positions)

Current or prior teacher certification in the United States

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Competence in use of technology such as Canvas and online repositories

Demonstrated understanding and commitment to education

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others

Demonstrated ability to mentor teachers

Valid driver’s license and access to transportation required for Supervision roles.
