The Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Service serves as the administrative and clinical Section Chief for Pathology and Laboratory Service at VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System. They oversee clinical operations, ensure quality outcomes and patient safety, direct budgeting, human resources, strategic planning, and program development, and integrate clinical and administrative functions to achieve the organization’s mission.

Responsibilities

Oversee clinical operations with responsibility for quality outcomes and patient safety.

Manage budget and fiscal resources.

Supervise human resources and staff development.

Lead strategic planning and program development.

Ensure compliance with accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission, CAP, and OIG.

Inspire, motivate, and guide Pathology and Laboratory staff toward strategic goals.

Collaborate with other management officials to advance the mission of the VHA.

Qualifications

Physician, board certified by the American Board of Pathology.

Unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.

Full‑time commitment with board certification required for CME reimbursement.
