Squire Patton Boggs
Squire Patton Boggs is seeking a mid‑level Associate with at least two years of solid general data privacy and security experience to join the U.S. team of our leading global Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Digital Assets Practice. In‑house and government experience will be considered. This position can be based in any of our U.S. offices.
Responsibilities
Work directly with partners worldwide in the U.S. team, managing significant projects and interfacing with clients.
Carry out compliance gap assessments and implement remediation plans.
Draft policies and procedures, including privacy policies, incident response plans, vendor contracting templates and data processing agreements.
Advise on data‑related commercial contracts and M&A transactions, and assist clients in determining compliance risks and priorities.
Implement data protection and information governance programs for clients across automotive, advertising, retail, healthcare, media, and technology sectors.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school with a strong academic record.
Admitted to a U.S. State Bar and in good standing; admission to the bar in the state of the primary office is expected if not currently admitted.
CIPP or CIPM certification preferred (e.g., CIPP‑US, CIPP‑EU, CIPM).
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
At least two to four years of substantial applied experience with data and digital issues, and three to six years of legal experience post‑J.D.
Experience with FTC and State AG guidance, GLBA, HIPAA, HITECH, CAN‑SPAM, TCPA, COPPA, FCRA, FERPA, VPPA, Cable Act, Privacy Act, CCPA, WA “My Health My Data”, Cal‑OPPA, CO AI Act, BIPA, and state biometric data laws.
Working understanding of privacy technologies such as cookie CMPs and information governance platforms.
Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills.
A self‑starter who can prioritize workloads, work with a geographically dispersed team, and deliver under pressure.
Desire to work in a collaborative, congenial environment and interest in partnership progression.
Proven ability to independently manage matters or meaningful segments of large or complex matters and drive projects to completion.
