Job Description: Youth Supervision Paraprofessional Position Title: Youth Supervision Paraprofessional Department: Youth Services Division Location: Mecklenburg County, NC Employment Type: Part-Time/Full-Time Salary: Competitive hourly rate based on hours worked Summary The Youth Supervision Paraprofessional (YSP) is essential in providing direct supervision and support to children in custody who may have developmental disabilities, behavioral health challenges, or a history of aggressive behaviors. Serving youth aged 3-17 in various settings, including County offices, Crossway Church, and a home in Gaston County, the YSP will create a safe and nurturing environment during critical transitional periods. Key Responsibilities • Direct Supervision: Provide constant, in-person supervision of youth to ensure their safety and well-being. • Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management techniques and crisis intervention strategies to effectively address challenging behaviors. • Daily Living Assistance: Assist youth with daily activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and recreational engagement. • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, observations, and progress notes for each youth under supervision. • Team Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors and other staff members to ensure a coordinated approach to care and supervision. • Emergency Preparedness: Be ready to provide supervision with less than four hours’ notice when youth require immediate support.
Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required; additional education in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred. • Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with youth, families, and team members. • Must pass a comprehensive background check as per Mecklenburg County requirements. • CPR/First Aid certification preferred; must obtain within the first 30 days of employment.
Working Conditions • All three shifts are available, depending on work hours preferred. The position involves working flexible hours, including weekends and overnight. • Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed. • Occasional physical intervention may be required if confronted by individuals displaying combative or potentially dangerous behavior.
