Heavy Equipment Operator - Paving Roller (Phoenix, AZ)
Sunland Asphalt & Construction, LLC is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator - Paving Roller in Phoenix, AZ. Our team is committed to growth and safety, with a proven track record of award-winning projects.
POSITION PURPOSE
Operators perform a variety of physical tasks to include operating the roller and other heavy equipment and machinery for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.
Responsibilities
- Operate the roller and other heavy equipment for paving projects.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and machinery.
- Coordinate and work with contractors, sub-contractors and vendors to complete the job.
- Serve as front-line Company representative and provide excellent service to the customer and the public.
- Work on the ground as needed.
- Work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent and/or Production Manager.
- Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent with regards to daily production schedule and activities.
- Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company training.
- Ensure the job-site is safe and traffic is controlled prior to commencing work, in conjunction with the Foreman or Crew Leader.
- Communicate effectively with other equipment operators, truck drivers and general laborers.
- Report problems and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor and/or shop personnel.
- Set up and tear down equipment as needed.
- Maintain a clean job site and secure the site daily.
- Use tools such as rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
- Perform other general labor tasks as needed.
- Any and all duties assigned.
Safety
- This position is safety-sensitive and subject to the company’s drug and alcohol policy and OHSA regulations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Operate vehicles and trailers safely and in compliance with traffic laws.
- Operate equipment and tools in compliance with safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
- Work outside for long periods in all weather, including extreme temperatures.
- Wear PPE as required.
- Lift up to 50 pounds; climb, bend, stoop, kneel and lift overhead.
- Exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Six months to one year related experience is preferred.
- Ability to speak, read and write English is preferred.
- Must be willing to travel to any job site, including staying away from home if necessary.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- A current driver’s license is preferred.
- Must have a clean motor-vehicle record if operating a Company vehicle.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check.
