Position Summary

Portland State University is Oregon’s most affordable public research university, located in the heart of one of America’s most dynamic cities. Our mission to “let knowledge serve the city” reflects our dedication to turning ideas into action — in Portland and around the world. The city is our campus, giving students unmatched access to career connections, a vibrant cultural scene and hands-on learning experiences with hundreds of community partners.

More than 20,000 students from all backgrounds bring diverse perspectives to our classrooms and campus life, from the tree-lined Park Blocks to the bustling Urban Plaza and state-of-the-art science labs. We are proud of our world-class faculty, groundbreaking research and international reputation for excellence in sustainability, community engagement and innovation.

The School of Business Student Success Retention & Recruiting Coordinator operates out of the Undergraduate Student Services Office. This position is responsible for coordinating all recruiting initiatives for prospective undergraduate students considering the School of Business, and working on a team to support student retention, specifically supporting First-Time Full-Time Freshmen. This position will work with the Undergraduate Student Services Team to ensure positive student success outcomes.

The recruiting aspects include establishing partnerships with faculty and staff, hosting recruitment events, and collaborating with admissions and advising teams to ensure prospective students have the necessary information. The coordinator leverages data to assess the effectiveness of recruitment efforts and builds relationships with counselors at local high schools and community colleges.

The retention aspects include continuously improving efforts to retain first-year students by identifying and supporting at-risk students and connecting them with campus resources. This involves front-line advising, proactive outreach to the first-year student cohort, and collaboration with the broader student success team to ensure positive outcomes. The role also supports the Summer Business Institute, coordinates community engagement events, and participates in the Undergraduate Student Success team to achieve cross-functional goals. This work is guided by best practices in equity and inclusion to address institutional barriers and systemic inequities.
