Position Summary The Senior Minister at Glide Memorial Church (GMC) will lead the church in its Christian practice, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs. The leadership will be grounded in liberation, unconditional love, systemic change, and transformation. The Minister will nurture the spiritual well‑being of GMC's congregation and community through initiatives focused on recovery, justice, connection, inclusion, transformation, and celebration. The goal is to be a sacred spiritual community for all who wish to express their connection to Spirit and community. The Senior Minister will provide visionary leadership to advance the Church’s mission, vision, values, and statement of faith. In collaboration with the GMC Board and GLIDE Foundation partners, this role will lead the Church’s priorities through ministry management, pastoral care, strategic visioning and planning, administration, stewardship, financial oversight, and community engagement and outreach.

Responsibilities

Ministry Management, Preaching And Teaching

Inspire and encourage the congregation through preaching, teaching, and sharing personal examples and journeys of faith and transformation.

Deliver scriptural sermons that resonate with all backgrounds and beliefs, promoting the teachings of God and Jesus Christ, and advocating for transformation through justice, compassion, unconditional love, acceptance, and activism.

Lead the ministry team, staff, Glide Ensemble, and volunteers to ensure cohesive and meaningful Sunday Celebration services.

Collaborate with the GMC ministerial team, Usher Team, and GLIDE Operations to ensure the safety, security, and welcome of staff, congregants, and visitors during Sunday Celebrations and events.

Pastoral Care And Spiritual Leadership

Oversee ministerial duties for the GMC community, including premarital counseling, weddings, baptisms, and funerals.

Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to congregation members, leaders, volunteers, and others during times of personal struggle.

Conduct hospital, nursing home, and home visits to offer spiritual support.

Provide leadership for planning and production of Sunday Celebrations and special events.

Strategic Vision, Planning, And Execution

Assess and evaluate the performance of ministry programs and Congregational Life support.

Develop an annual strategic plan aligned with the Church’s mission, vision, values, and statement of faith.

Establish objectives and two-year goals; define and maintain Key Performance Measures (KPMs).

Translate the strategic plan into the annual staff operating plan; ensure staff goals align with church-wide priorities.

Administrative Leadership

Lead and guide Church staff and volunteers through regular meetings and support.

Oversee planning, production, and delivery of Sunday Celebrations and other events, including livestream and remote services.

Oversee Church communications, including posting on social media, updating the website, and distributing the church newsletter.

Design and implement processes to respond to congregation requests (prayer, pastoral care, etc.).

Supervise recruitment, training, and development of Church staff; oversee appointment of new ministers and maintain good standing of existing ministers.

Stewardship And Fundraising Leadership

Develop and execute stewardship and fundraising initiatives with the GMC Stewardship & Fundraising Committee.

Lead church capital, sustainer, and other campaigns; administer donations and gifts received during events and online.

Financial Leadership

Lead financial and budgeting initiatives; collaborate with the GMC Finance Committee, GMC Board, and GLIDE CFO on budgeting and cost-saving strategies.

Community Engagement And Outreach

Lead, design, and assess engagement and outreach initiatives; collaborate with Congregational Life leaders to plan events; engage Tenderloin neighborhood and community partners; represent GMC publicly at events.

Preferred Qualifications

Ordained Minister

Minimum of 7 years of ministry experience in a church setting

Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience as a Senior Minister in a church, business, or non-profit

Education

Master’s level education from a seminary or divinity school

Bachelor’s or master’s in business, administration, management, or law; organizational leadership or non-profit management is a plus

Work Environment

GLIDE’s buildings are located in the Tenderloin neighborhood; open door policy to the community and clients

Compensation: $200,000 - $225,000 per year. This is a full-time, exempt position.
