The Kuiper Environmental Engineer will lead critical environmental initiatives for Amazon's Kuiper project, based at either our Redmond or Kirkland, Washington, facility. This role combines technical engineering expertise with strategic program management to enhance Kuiper's environmental performance and regulatory compliance, with a focus on air quality and permitting. As an individual contributor, you will develop and implement environmental management systems, manage compliance programs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with leadership teams, you will integrate environmental engineering solutions and best practices into daily operations while ensuring regulatory requirements are met. Your responsibilities will encompass the technical design and oversight of environmental systems, development of compliance processes, and implementation of sustainable practices.
Key job responsibilities Air Quality and Permitting Focus
Lead air quality compliance programs and manage permitting processes
Manage federal, state, and local air quality permits and compliance requirements
Design and implement air emissions monitoring systems and control technologies
Conduct air quality risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies
Interface with regulatory agencies on air quality matters
Prepare and submit regulatory reports for air quality compliance
Environmental Management
Implement environmental management systems and compliance programs
Evaluate facility conditions and recommend improvements
Lead cross-functional environmental projects and initiatives
Perform environmental data analysis and reporting
Develop and deliver environmental training
Build stakeholder relationships and manage resources
Develop technical solutions for complex environmental challenges
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations
Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life Based at either our Redmond or Kirkland, Washington, production facility, you will play a vital role in Amazon Kuiper's environmental compliance programs, specializing in air quality management and permitting while supporting broader environmental compliance. Working under the Kuiper Sr. Environmental Manager, your day typically involves monitoring emissions data, evaluating compliance status, and coordinating with operations teams. You'll develop and maintain air permits, manage environmental programs, and implement monitoring systems. This role requires balancing daily compliance activities with long-term program development while serving as a technical resource for the site, interfacing with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent
5+ years of environmental engineering/management experience with focus on air permitting in aerospace industry or similar field
Strong knowledge of Clean Air Act and related state, and local environmental regulations
Industrial environmental experience with demonstrated compliance expertise across multiple environmental media types (Air Quality, Hazardous Waste, Industrial Wastewater, etc.)
Demonstrated expertise in air permit applications and compliance
Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing complex environmental projects
Strong background in environmental risk assessment, compliance auditing, and corrective action implementation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior management and external stakeholders
Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field
8+ years of environmental engineering/management experience in the aerospace industry or similar fields
Proven track record in laboratory/R&D, complex manufacturing, and/or production environments with a focus on air permitting
Experience with Title V permitting
Knowledge of aerospace NESHAP requirements
Demonstrated ability to engage workforce at all levels to build and maintain a strong environmental culture
Experience implementing environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) across multiple sites
Knowledge of emerging environmental technologies and best practices in the aerospace industry
Experience in regulatory negotiations and managing relationships with environmental agencies
Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of building strong working relationships across all levels and disciplines
Adaptable and receptive to feedback, with the ability to quickly implement changes
Experience mentoring junior environmental professionals and driving organizational change

Compensation Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
