Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate nursing care for the Behavioral Health unit during the assigned shift under the supervision of the Department Director. Maintain communication with the Director and/or House Supervisor regarding unanticipated patient care events and risk management activities. Utilize nursing personnel effectively, assist with scheduling, staffing and assignments. Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of staff and staff education as necessary; assist with performance evaluations and related HR activities. Assess supplies and equipment availability, ensure proper use and functionality, and assist in maintaining par levels. Collaborate with other department managers to ensure smooth coordination of services, enhanced patient flow, and efficient admission/discharge/transfer processes. Assess patient care delivery and quality of care/documentation; direct staff to modify plans of care to ensure patient safety and adherence to regulatory guidelines, policies, procedures, protocols and clinical pathways. Notify appropriate personnel using the chain of command for unanticipated events or changes in patient status. Interview patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance patient experiences, provide orientation, and increase awareness of services and access to the charge nurse. May perform direct patient care within scope of practice and clinical competency to ensure patient safety and appropriate nurse/patient ratios.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING Current and valid state RN License Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current Previous supervisory experience, preferred Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws, Practice Standards, interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavior health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral units Continuum of care for behavioral health care, preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, preferred
