Overview
The Manager – Cable Specialist Division is responsible for building, leading, and managing a specialized team of field technicians who perform medium voltage (MV) cable terminations, splices, and related installation and testing services. This position requires a licensed Electrical Contractor in the State of Texas. The manager will ensure all projects adhere to applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards, and drive the development of a comprehensive training and qualification program for all field personnel. This role will also lead efforts to expand the group’s capabilities to become an industry-recognized Cable Specialist Division, providing both installation and advanced diagnostic/testing services for MV cable systems. Responsibilities
Hire, train, and supervise field technicians specializing in MV cable terminations and splices. Ensure all work complies with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, NETA, and state/local electrical codes. Maintain the company’s Texas Electrical Contractor’s License and ensure proper use and compliance. Develop and implement a technical training and certification program for all MV field personnel. Lead business development efforts to grow the MV cable installation and testing service line. Manage project scheduling, resource allocation, and overall team productivity. Oversee and review MV termination projects to ensure safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Develop and review proposals, contracts, and cost estimates. Establish and maintain safety culture aligned with corporate EHS initiatives. Support the development of specialty MV cable testing services, such as VLF, tan delta, and partial discharge testing. Track division financial performance, job progress, and invoicing accuracy. Perform performance evaluations and mentor team members for career growth.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct supervision of field technicians and any assigned supervisors or leads within the MV Cable Termination Division.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical school or military background in power systems preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in medium voltage cable installation, splicing, and termination. Proven supervisory or management experience in the electrical testing or contracting industry. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with clients, peers, subordinates and management. Willing to do some overnight travel to cover field region and attend company meetings. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. Required to sit and work at computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Valid Driver’s License.
Licensing/Certification
Must hold and maintain a Texas Electrical Contractor License. Must hold certifications for installing multiple style and manufacture MV terminations and splices. Certification on Pfisterer terminations preferred.
Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of MV power distribution systems, terminations, and testing methods. Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills. Action-oriented with strong drive for results and quality execution. Ability to build and develop effective teams. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and project management tools.
Pre-employment Requirements
Due to the safety sensitive aspect of the role, candidates are required to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. In addition, you will also be required to complete and pass a pre-employment background check.
