Job Description Direct Hire

Pay ranges from 85K-110K

Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing plans and specifications, and they are responsible for all phases of the estimating process, from quantity take-offs to final bid submission. Key duties involve collaborating with clients, engineers, and subcontractors; performing risk assessment; and mentoring junior estimators. They also analyze project costs for accuracy and help maintain historical cost databases to improve future estimates.

Key responsibilities

Cost estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates by performing quantity take-offs and calculating costs for labor, materials, and equipment.

Bid analysis: Analyze bid documents, specifications, and drawings to understand project scope and identify risks and opportunities.

Subcontractor and vendor management: Request bids from and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.

Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop project scopes and budgets.

Reporting and presentations: Prepare and present budget presentations and reports to stakeholders.

Risk assessment: Evaluate and document project risks and develop mitigation strategies to incorporate them into the estimates.

Database and historical data: Maintain a historical cost database by accurately analyzing completed projects to compare estimated versus actual costs.

Team leadership: Train and supervise junior estimators and provide direction on means and methods and strategy.

Site visits: Attend pre-bid meetings and site tours to gain a full understanding of project requirements.

Required skills and qualifications

Experience: Extensive experience in commercial or construction estimating, often with 5-10+ years in the field.

Education: A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is often .

Technical skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software and MS Office.

Analytical skills: Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential for accurate calculations and risk assessment.

Interpersonal skills: Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

Attention to detail: A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is crucial for preparing and reviewing estimates.

Computer literacy : Must be proficient with the following software and programs: primavera, excel, word and PowerPoint
