What this job involves Responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objective of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating machinery and systems in a cost‑effective manner. The Chief Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients’ needs and the goal of 100% uptime throughout the engineering team.
Day to Day Responsibilities Building Management
Monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning equipment; boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment; pumps, valves, piping and filters; and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Review logs as necessary to assure proper operation, report problems or malfunctions as needed, and perform preventive tasks.
Oversee repair and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems and determine maintenance frequencies.
Ensure adequate inventory of tools and supplies; prepare purchase orders, source stock materials, and perform periodic inventory checks.
Oversee activities of contractors working within the building, whether representatives of the building or tenants.
Safety
Identify safety hazards and incorporate remediation to ensure a safe environment for staff and occupants.
Implement, administer, and manage safety training programs.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines related to building infrastructure operations, and alert management to discrepancies.
Maintain compliance documentation, including up‑to‑date building drawings and single‑lines.
Leadership
Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training and personal development.
Ensure the CFWA (Critical Facility Work Authorization) is well understood among staff, engineers, tenants and contractors.
Training
Provide training and support to expand the capabilities of operational staff, including hands‑on instruction and recommendations for relevant outside engineering courses.
Any other duties and tasks assigned.
Desired Experience and Technical Skills Required
7+ years facility‑related work experience, including customer service, leadership and supervisory experience.
Managerial experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes.
Understanding of construction planning and execution.
Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding and electrical systems engineering and operation.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
Preferred
Associate’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.
Universal Technician for CFC’s (or within 90 days of employment).
Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
Compensation Estimated compensation for this position: 90,000.00 – 115,000.00 USD per year.
Location On‑site – Seal Beach, CA.
