Overview
This Medical Technologist Lead will perform specialized testing in the area of Cytogenetics in a CAP accredited laboratory. This position will assist with assay and instrument validations, quality initiatives, and post-analytic activities. General cytogenetic laboratory tasks such as cell culture, harvesting, specimen preparation and analysis are part of every cytogeneticist’s work. The clinical assessment of human genetic disease in this laboratory involves the use of the most current and approved cytogenetic testing methodologies (e.g., karyotyping, FISH, and microarray testing) to address a variety of clinical needs (e.g., cancer, congenital, and prenatal assessments).
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated and for which the laboratory is licensed under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes and minimum 2 years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological; OR Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training; OR Individuals performing high complexity testing on or before April 24, 1995 with a high school diploma or equivalent with documented training may continue to perform testing only on those tests for which training was documented prior to September 1, 1997 (refer to CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b) for details on required training).
Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid clinical cytogenetic technologist license as awarded by the State of Florida.
Five (5) years of experience as a Cytogenetic Technologist is preferred.
Ability to work independently, analyze and present data, multitask, and maintain close communication with the Supervisor/Director is preferred. Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation (Required): Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose. A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or UF Health Pathology Laboratories automobile at least once daily, at least five individual trips per week or drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Must possess either a temporary or current license as a State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the specialty(s) required for the job.
