About the Company & the Staff Accountant Opportunity
Our client is a fast-growing, mission-driven healthcare organization at the forefront of preventative and personalized medicine. This is an exciting opportunity in a newly created Staff Accountant role to join a collaborative finance team and play a critical role in supporting accurate financial reporting, payroll compliance, and tax filings. You'll work closely with leadership to streamline accounting operations and contribute to a company that is transforming the future of healthcare.
Key Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant
Payroll Processing:
Accurately process recurring payroll cycles, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; respond to payroll-related inquiries promptly.
Compliance Management:
Oversee local and multi-state payroll, employment, and business compliance requirements, including registrations, filings, and renewals.
Sales & Use Tax:
Prepare, file, and reconcile Sales and Use Tax returns across multiple states.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
Perform monthly reconciliations of payroll liabilities, accruals, and other key balance sheet accounts.
State Filings & Resolutions:
Manage routine state filings, correspondence, and tax resolution matters in coordination with regulatory agencies.
General Accounting:
Support general ledger entries, assist with month-end close, and prepare schedules for internal and external reporting.
Ad Hoc Projects:
Partner with finance leadership on special projects, audits, and process improvements.
Qualifications of the Staff Accountant
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2-4 years of accounting experience (public or private), preferably including payroll and multi-state compliance
Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory filing requirements
Experience with Sales & Use Tax filings and reconciliations
Proficiency with accounting software (Sage Intacct a plus) and Excel
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate clearly with internal stakeholders
