JOB SUMMARY
This position performs intermediate, skilled, and technical communications support to assist in implementing the City’s communications and public relations strategy; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Communications Manager. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. The work requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Hearing: Required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand. Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Vocal Communication: Required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Visual Acuity: Required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. Assists the Communications Manager in implementing the Communications Plan and developing communications and public relations strategies aligned with the City’s mission and goals. Supports the creation, editing, and distribution of print and digital content, including newsletters, brochures, social media posts, and website updates. Helps identify and share compelling community stories that foster civic pride and highlight City initiatives. Collaborates with City departments to gather information and create engaging content aimed at effectively communicating City initiatives and services. Assists with monitoring and managing the City’s social media platforms, responding to comments, questions, and concerns to foster positive community engagement. Prepares and maintains digital content calendars to ensure timely and consistent communications. Assists with tracking and reporting communications analytics to assess effectiveness and propose improvements. Participates in developing communication materials for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and brand consistency. Provides support in drafting press releases, media advisories, and other public announcements. Assists in organizing and coordinating special events, press conferences, or community meetings as needed. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends in digital communication and social media strategies to enhance City communications efforts. Performs related tasks as required. OTHER INFORMATION

Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in communications, public relations, social media management, or a related field. A college degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a related field is preferred and may substitute for up to two years of experience. Special Qualifications
A driver’s license valid in the State of Florida. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques of communications, including print, website, and social media platforms. Knowledge of content creation, copywriting, and copy editing with strong attention to detail. Familiarity with graphic design, layout, and publishing concepts. Working knowledge of content management systems, social media tools, and digital marketing practices. Basic understanding of analytics tools and performance metrics related to communications and social media engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including grammar, editing, and clarity. Proficiency in standard communication technologies and software, including Microsoft Office Suite and digital content tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express). Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Ability to learn and apply new communication technologies and platforms. Ability to work collaboratively and establish effective working relationships with City staff, City Administration, consultants, and the general public. Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both internally and externally.
