Summary Grand Valley State University’s Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies program (MPAS) seeks a full-time, tenure‑track faculty member to join the Grand Rapids site. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) faculty to advance education for PAS students, delivering didactic lecture, laboratory, and small group teaching. Tenure‑track duties will also include scholarship and service.

Required Qualifications and Education

Is a PA: Must be an NCCPA‑certified physician assistant with a master’s degree in a PA‑focused discipline or be a board‑certified (ABMS or AOA) physician. Candidates must be eligible for a Michigan license.

Documented record of professional and/or academic achievement.

At least three (3) years of clinical experience (if a clinical degree).

Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills and ability to work effectively with others.

Proficiency with conventional academic technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, Zoom).

Strong commitment to the mission and goals of the university, college, department, and program.

Preferred Qualifications and Education

Doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., DMSc, DHSc, EdD, M.D., D.O., PhD).

At least two (2) years of academic experience or health‑related teaching.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate active learning and integrate educational technology into teaching.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions Educational/Teaching

Provide course lectures, labs, and other educational sessions as assigned, including physiology/pathophysiology, clinical anatomy, medicine, and skills courses.

Develop appropriate teaching materials, including written, audiovisual, computer, and self‑instruction materials.

Supervise and instruct students in didactic and/or clinical settings.

Assist with recruitment of adjunct didactic faculty when appropriate.

Evaluate student performance in accordance with program learning outcomes and competencies.

Provide academic advising to students to ensure satisfactory progression.

Integrate evidence‑based practice and current research into teaching.

Administrative

Assist the Program Director/Department Chair as needed.

Assist with departmental/program evaluation and ongoing self‑assessment.

Service

Contribute to the functioning and advancement of the program, college, university, and profession through meaningful service activities.

Engage in interunit activities that promote the interests of the PA program.

Attend university, college, departmental, and program committee meetings and activities.

Maintain involvement in professional organizations and represent the program in local, regional, or national forums.

Participate in community educational activities to promote the PA profession and recruit potential PA students.

Remain current in the practice of medicine as applicable.

Scholarly Activity

Contribute to the academic mission of the PAS Program and GVSU through scholarship that supports teaching, advances the PA profession, and benefits the community.

Promote scholarly inquiry with PA students.

Engage in scholarly projects that result in presentations, publications, or other peer‑reviewed dissemination.

Participate in collaborative research with colleagues within the program, across departments, or with community partners.

Seek internal or external funding to support scholarly initiatives when appropriate.

Salary $105,000 or commensurate with experience.
