Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine The closing date is 07 November 2025
We are seeking a substantive Consultant in Anaethesia and Intensive Medicine to join our modern ITU/HDU at Kettering General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality care across a wide and complex case mix, within a supportive and forward-looking team. With excellent facilities, strong links across medical and surgical specialties, and a commitment to innovation, education, and patient-centred care, this role offers both professional growth and the chance to shape the future of a developing service.
Main duties of the job There is a 10 weekly rolling job plan associated with this post. ITU and on-call duties are delivered during the first five weeks with a shift pattern consisting of 12.5- and 8-hour days, and night shifts where DCC is from 8pm to 11pm with on call from home thereafter.
For consultants with subspecialty in Anaesthetics their job plan includes approximately 3 weeks of an average of 6 theatre sessions/ week, which include various specialities including general surgery, trauma, orthopaedics, ENT, maxillo-facial surgery, urology, plastic surgery.
The appointee is expected to offer some flexibility in these sessions, although the theatre rota will generally be produced up to 4 weeks in advance, and it is normal practice to allocate appointees regular lists to allow for the development of team building, specific skill sets relating to areas of interest and ongoing working relationships.

Person Specification Education, Training & Qualifications
Full registration with GMC, or eligible to apply.
FRCA or equivalent
FFICM/EDIC
CCT or CESR in Intensive care medicine (or within 6 months of interview)
CCT or CESR in Anaesthesia (or within 6 months of interview)
All round experience of general and regional anaesthesia, obstetrics and paediatrics
Current certification in ALS
Higher/academic qualification
Current certification in any of the following (or equivalent): ATLS. APLS. EPLS. ATACC
Instructor in one or more Advanced Life Support courses
Membership of the IC/ FICM
Teaching/Audit/Service Improvement
Effective participation in clinical audit and/or service improvement projects
Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and training at an appropriate level
Academic achievements and Research
Specialist interest to complement those of other consultants in the department e.g. FICE (or similar), Teaching qualifications, management training
Publications in recognised journals/Presentations at National or International Conferences
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
