Research Technician II
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of an Associate’s degree, two (2) years formal training in subject matter directly related to the project or program may be considered.
Two (2) years of full-time experience directly related to the project or program which may include Biology lab courses or animal husbandry activities.
Experience with laboratory procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology or a related field in the sciences.
Additional years of experience directly related to the project or program to include Biology lab courses or animal husbandry activities.
Familiarity with aquaculture and troubleshooting of aquatics systems.
Experience with molecular biology techniques.
Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for aquatics systems (leak repair, system maintenance).
Brief Description of Duties Working under general supervision, they will perform a wide variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks to support and directly assist an advanced research project in the lab. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time‑management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the ability to follow specific instructions; to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
(E) 50% – Assist with zebrafish husbandry including raising, breeding, and genotyping zebrafish. Under the guidance of PI, support research projects and assist in data collection.
(E) 30% – Under guidance of PI, zebrafish aquatic system maintenance including water testing and other maintenance.
(E) 10% – Participation in lab meetings. Training of students in feeding and care of fish.
(E) 5% – Laboratory cleaning and maintenance of supplies according to SBU laboratory safety guidelines.
(NE) 5% – Other duties or projects as assigned.
Special Notes The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA non‑exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
