Job Summary: Under the direction of the Manager/In-Charge Technologist and Medical Director the nuclear medicine technologist will perform a variety of technical procedures that require a high degree of independent judgement and initiative in the utilization of radionuclides for diagnosis and therapy. Receive patient and provide proper care during performance of clinical procedure. Verify patient identification by two identifiers and review orders. Recognize and respond to emergencies. Obtain pertinent patient history and check for procedural contradictions. Maintain and operate auxiliary equipment necessary to perform procedures. Communicate effectively with patient and family. Prepare patient for procedure. Select and administer proper radionuclide/medication by route and dosage. Prepare instruments, computer, and imaging protocol as indicated. Implement ALARA measures. Evaluate image appearance and perform additional views as required. Process and evaluate computer generated data. Obtain samples for non-imaging studies. Prepare and administer interventional pharmacologic agents as directed by protocol. Maintain sterile technique as required. Perform imaging, non-imaging, function studies, and therapeutic exams per departmental protocols. Ensure patient security during movement between devices and positions. Know operation of safety devices and apply them appropriately. Be familiar with departmental environment of care documents. Follow procedures for receipt and return of radioactive materials. Implement ALARA in radio pharmacy duties. Maintain records of doses in logs. Maintain a sanitary and organized radio pharmacy. Label and store radioactive materials properly. Post signage. Perform quality control on radiopharmaceuticals. Follow directions for radionuclide preparations. Document receipt and disposal of radionuclides. Prepare and dispense diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals per protocols and Title A mandates. Maintain sterile procedures when preparing human biological specimens\' radionuclides or cold compounds. Maintain accurate records of exams performed. Operate PACS system and verify studies prior to archiving. Place exams on optical discs for long-term storage. Archive radiopharmacy information in patient dose ticket and logs. Acquire orders, verify clinical information, date, account number and type. Charge procedure and supplies per regulations. Report equipment problems and log confirmations. Investigate outstanding charges. Comply with downtime protocols. Follow HIPAA mandates of the Department of Radiology and Prisma Health System. Keep a neat, clean work environment. Stock supplies. Dispose of soiled linens, used supplies, radioactive materials, and bio-hazardous materials per hospital policy. Notify appropriate personnel of unsafe conditions. Maintain signage for radioactive regulations. Promote intra/inter and external communications. Maintain ethical standards. Communicate with physicians and healthcare workers about procedures. Maintain a pleasant attitude on calls. Coordinate with central scheduling. Ensure patient/family understanding and obtain signed consents. Arrange translation as appropriate. Perform and evaluate routine quality on instrumentation per manuals. Calibrate survey instruments and dose calibrators. Record daily QC checks. Use personal radiation monitoring devices; store properly. Manage radioactive spills per procedures. Apply ALARA at all times. Instruct patient families and other providers on radiation safety after administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Follow policies on recordable events and misadministrations. Dispose of or store radioactive materials safely. Be vigilant for unauthorized persons in the department. Lock radioactive sources when department is without nuclear medicine personnel. Instruct and supervise students in nuclear medicine procedures; supervise activity and evaluate progress per protocol; communicate with instructors; mentor new hires; evaluate education as required. Achieve patient satisfaction; adhere to standards of behavior. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that reports to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements

Education - Certification Program. Graduate of accredited nuclear medicine technology school Experience - One (1) year nuclear medicine experience. Strong background in physics/chemistry In Lieu Of

Team members as of 11/08/2020 are grandfathered from the education and experience requirements pending state and regulatory requirements. Clinical experience may be considered toward the one year experience requirement. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

ARRT(N) or NMTCB registry CPR and ARRT(N) registered and/or NMTCB registered SCSQRSA License ARRT in Radiology preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
