The pay range for this position is $34.94 - $61.36 per hour.

Duties And Responsibilities

This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position. Comply with all State and Federal regulations to provide quality passenger transportation service. Comply and understand all safety and railroad policies, rules, and procedures. Identify, diagnose and resolve mechanical problems that affect prior and during rail operation. Identify and document equipment defects on the Daily Equipment Inspection Report. Knowledge of territory to operate train safely. Be able to communicate with Conductors and other to solve problems quickly and react to changing conditions on the job. Initiate the performance of a job briefing with all affected persons. Work rotating shifts that include nights, weekends, and holidays. Subject to call and must report to duty when assigned. Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. At or above 18 years of age. Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to job. Familiar with railroad operating practices. Organized and able to work independently. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate effectively to large groups while prioritizing safety, passenger rail service, On-time performance, and the requirements of the owner Ability to read documents and comprehend as they relate to safe passenger rail service Must currently possess a Class I Locomotive Engineers license (49 CFR 240 Certified) with no violations within the last (3) years. Must be General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) qualified or become GCOR qualified within 30 days of hire date

Pre-Employment Requirements

Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review. Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position. This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle. Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to one-half mile. Maintain balance for an extended period of time while train is in motion. Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis. Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 16 inches. Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind. Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time. Able to tolerate repetitive movements, squatting/bending, and overhead reaching. Able to lift up to shoulder height and horizontally transfer up to 35 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet. Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time. Regularly reach overhead. Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment with a force up to 20 pounds. Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 36 inches from the floor. Regularly ascend and descend an 8 step ladder while carrying up to 20 pounds. Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position. Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position. Able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
