$130,000.00/yr - $155,000.00/yr An Asset Manager is seeking an experienced professional to join their team as a Tax Manager in their New York City office. Responsibilities: Lead all aspects of RIC tax reporting and compliance for private market investment funds. Collaborate with Big 4 accounting firms on year-end tax provision preparation, review and draft tax footnotes for financial statements, and manage deferred tax and FIN 48/ASC 740 documentation. Supervise the preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and excise tax returns in coordination with fund accounting teams and external vendors. Perform and review GAAP-to-tax reconciliations, ensuring accurate maintenance of tax basis records, book/tax differences, and supporting documentation. Calculate and monitor compliance with RIC qualification requirements, including income and asset tests, and distribution thresholds. Lead distribution analysis and develop excise tax strategies to enhance tax efficiency for shareholders. Respond to IRS and state tax notices and inquiries, coordinating effectively with external advisors as needed. Partner with Accounting, Operations, and executive leadership—including the CFO and CEO—on tax strategy, fund structuring, and financial reporting matters. Stay informed of evolving tax laws impacting RICs and alternative fund vehicles; recommend and implement policy changes and structural updates as needed. Qualifications: 6–10 years of progressive tax experience, preferably within asset management, mutual funds, or alternative investment firms Deep knowledge of RIC taxation and Subchapter M compliance is required Background in Big 4 public accounting strongly preferred Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation; CPA or MST is highly valued Comprehensive understanding of U.S. tax regulations for investment entities, including tax allocations and financial statement disclosures Strong analytical abilities with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex tax matters to non-specialist audiences Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teams and with external tax professionals Seniority level
