Position:

Driver License Examiner II (CDL) – Department of Customer Services (CSD), Motor Vehicle, Licensing and Permitting Division.

Overview The Driver License Examiner II will examine applicants for all license categories (types 1 through 4 and commercial driver license (CDL) class A through C) and conduct skill tests to ensure eligibility for a driver's license.

What You'll Do

Conduct CDL and driver license skill tests including pre‑trip inspections, basic control skills, road tests, and evaluate applicants' driving abilities according to regulations.

Explain testing procedures and results to applicants, provide feedback on performance, and give instructions for rescheduling if needed.

Review and verify driver license applications and legal documents to ensure applicants meet all licensure requirements.

Administer written, oral, vision, and hearing tests, monitor testing to prevent cheating, and process results in the licensing system.

Determine applicant eligibility for licenses, including out‑of‑state transfers, and issue permits or temporary licenses as appropriate.

Perform other related duties as required.

Salary & Benefits Actual salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval. Positions may include a relocation incentive.

Required Qualifications Education Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted.

Experience Experience:

Three (3) years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory or related experience, including or supplemented by one (1) year of frequent public contact explaining rules and regulations to others in determining eligibility or non‑eligibility for licenses, benefits or similar matters.

License License:

Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license Category A (CDL A) with passenger endorsement at the time of application.

Special Requirement Candidates for examiners of Category 4 and Commercial Driver’s licenses must possess a good driving record, evidenced by a certified traffic abstract with no moving violations within the past three (3) years; and a valid CDL A with passenger endorsement for at least three years immediately preceding appointment.
