M&S Engineering - Electric Distribution Designer - Fort Worth, TX, application via RippleMatch M&S Engineering uses RippleMatch to find top talent. This role is with M&S Engineering, LLC, a non‑exempt position of Electric Distribution Designer. The position will produce electric distribution field designs, stake distribution facilities, estimate projects and prepare construction prints using electronic design/estimation software in accordance with the client’s standards and specifications. The role is office‑based and not remote.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; ability to pass background check and drug screening; current Texas driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Required Duties and Responsibilities

Represent yourself professionally, meeting with property owners, other engineering firms and construction resources while upholding the image of M&S and the client.

Stay abreast of changing technologies, work planning and design methodologies associated with electric distribution design.

Mentor and/or train other staff members to transfer design knowledge.

Design both overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.

Recognize electric distribution framing and components 4 kV through 35 kV and initiate designs for construction or reconstruction of both overhead and underground facilities.

Perform distribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometric angle calculations, conductor sag interpretation, unitized framing design, construction practices and safety guidelines using industry tools and methods.

Take personal responsibility for the quality, accuracy and time constraints of work product.

Possess strong analytical and technical problem‑solving skills.

Multi‑task several projects through different design iterations and priority shifts.

Use a laptop computer and related software programs including MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word.

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Employ strong time‑management and multi‑tasking skills.

Work outdoors for extended hours in various climate conditions, travel and overnight stays for up to five nights.

Walk over and across various terrain, carrying surveying instruments and field staking equipment for staking electric distribution design.

Use tools to clear brush or shallow excavation to locate property identifiers for staking and design of distribution facilities.

Desired Duties and Responsibilities

Associate’s degree or certificate in Electric Power Technology and/or three years’ prior experience with electric distribution design and estimation.

Familiarity with operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.

Familiarity with joint construction and electric utility best practices.

Knowledge of electric distribution construction framing techniques, practices and components.

Use of surveying equipment and gathering of geospatial points.

Interpret property line boundaries, topographic surveys, as‑built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking and geospatial points.

Use electronic design/estimation software to prepare cost estimates using unitized labor and material units, work instructions and construction sketches.

Research and collect property deed information at record facilities for evaluation of easements, establishing ownership information and property boundaries.

Familiarity with NESC and its applications to electric distribution line design.

Familiarity with permit acquisition procedures involving TxDOT, city, county, state and federal applications.
