Duties and Responsibilities This is an independent professional position. The incumbent will receive a wide variety of in-office and in-field training. This position is responsible for conducting regulatory field inspections to assure compliance with state and local laws and rules. Other duties may include data entry, report writing, record keeping, providing education, and preparing legal notices. The duties of this position require the incumbent to work independently using effective time management and organization skills to meet deadlines.
Inspect public swimming pools and bathing places to assure compliance with state water quality, safety, and operating standards to protect public health. Activities include field chemical testing, inspecting water treatment components (pumps, filters, chemical feeders, flow rates, etc.), complaint investigations, consultation, and enforcement.
Inspect Group care facilities and Mobile Home Parks/Recreational Vehicle Parks to protect the health and safety of clients.
Investigate environmental nuisance complaints related to improperly treated solid waste, human/animal waste, disease vectors, and other environmentally related threats to public health. Efforts to secure abatement include consultation, referral, and enforcement.
Work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency and/or to meet programmatic deadlines.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of Florida Administrative Codes, Florida Building Code and Florida Statutes related to the duties of the position.
Ability to work independently and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and ensure completion of work assignments as required.
Ability to move freely around inspection sites, including swimming pool decks, confined pool equipment areas and may involve bending, squatting, light lifting, and climbing stairs and ladders.
Ability to work outside in high heat and humid weather conditions.
Ability to effectively perform field inspections, document findings, write reports and prepare legal notices as required.
Ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to communicate inspection/investigation findings to customers, the general public and community partners.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques to complete assignments.
Licensure/Registration/Certification If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite: N/A
Minimum Qualifications
Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
Valid driver’s license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes.
Willing to work outside in the extreme Florida weather (heat and rain).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, environmental health, environmental sciences, or a physical or biological science. OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, environmental health, environmental sciences, or a physical or biological science. OR Six (6) months of experience in a regulatory field in public health or environmental protection or 30 credit hours in a physical or biological science.
