Position Overview: Perform tool engineering on plant thermoform tooling projects, including specification, engineering and design, technical review and RFQ from qualified tool shops. Provide complete project management including procurement, assembly, start‑up and qualification of tooling and products for the manufacturing plant. Participate with NPD in development of tooling to optimize new product cost and manufacturability, and with manufacturing teams to resolve current issues with new and current tooling.

Responsibilities

Engineer plant thermoform production tools for NPD and manufacturing support projects.

Contribute technical expertise to manufacturing and NPD support projects.

Perform engineering calculations to ensure high level of tool performance (throughput, cooling, quality, process window).

Design both Form and Trim tooling, including mold and dieset design, conversion sets (cavities, assist plugs, trim tooling, perforation tooling).

Manage assigned projects: work with project team, review tooling concepts, control schedule and budget, ensure high‑quality tool fabrication, conduct initial trial and tooling qualification, audit project success.

Collaborate with plant tool personnel, quality, tool engineering and manufacturing to maintain and improve tooling standards.

Participate in design evaluation of new and current products to improve manufacturability and execution of tooling qualification.

Analyze manufacturing issues to develop better design standards and correct current problems.

Establish technical competence and contribute to creative manufacturing solutions involving production lines, machinery and infrastructure.

Prepare Capital Authorization Request (CAR) when required, with justification, timeline and ROI, and present to management.

Qualifications

BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

At least 5 years of experience in tool design, thermoforming preferred.

Skilled in 3D solid modeling CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).

Experience in plastics manufacturing, tool making or machine shop.

Strong problem‑solving skills with good mechanical aptitude.

Knowledge of current safety compliance requirements.

Experience with continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing methods a plus.

Effective communication and teamwork skills for project coordination.

Demonstrated documentation for schedule and budget management.
