We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented
Refractory Engineer/Specialist
to join our client in the steelmaking operations sector. This position is responsible for overseeing the performance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of refractory systems within the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgy Facility (LMF), RH Degasser, and Caster operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of refractory materials, process parameters, and repair practices that ensure equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Base pay range $90.00/yr - $110.00/yr

Key Responsibilities
Ensure a
safe and healthy work environment , following all safety policies and procedures.
Monitor and evaluate the
performance and wear
of refractories in EAF, LMF, Ladle, RH, and Caster systems.
Identify and implement
corrective actions
when refractory performance targets are not met.
Manage
production process parameters
that affect refractory life and apply adjustments to maintain quality.
Plan, organize, and oversee
refractory repair, relining, and maintenance activities.
Supervise internal and external
refractory teams and contractors , ensuring compliance and quality work.
Participate in
root cause analyses
for equipment or material failures and develop corrective measures.
Write and update
standard operating procedures
and
HIRAC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control)
documentation.
Lead or contribute to
continuous improvement projects
to extend refractory life and reduce costs.
Conduct
new material trials
(bricks, concrete, and other heat‑resistant materials).
Collaborate with EAF, LMF, RH, and Caster departments to ensure seamless steelmaking operations.
Coordinate with
maintenance
on repair scheduling and equipment readiness.
Provide
technical expertise
to the technology team on refractory‑related projects.
Monitor
inventory levels
and communicate with procurement and suppliers to maintain optimal stock.
Foster a work environment that promotes
teamwork, accountability, and safety , aligning with company values.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field
(or equivalent experience).
6+ years of experience in
refractory management ,
steelmaking , or
high‑temperature industrial environments
preferred.
Strong knowledge of
EAF, LMF, RH, and caster operations .
Proven ability to analyze data and
identify process improvements .
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience managing
contractors and maintenance teams .
Proficient in Microsoft Office and industrial monitoring/reporting systems.
Demonstrated commitment to
safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement .
