Controller Taltran Global has been exclusively retained by a fast-growing residential solar construction company based in Sacramento, California, to recruit a Controller. Our client provides end-to-end solar design, construction, and installation services, managing both its core construction operations and a complementary sales organization under one brand. The company has built a strong reputation for operational excellence, quality craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction across California’s residential solar market. As the business continues to expand its footprint, it is focused on strengthening its financial infrastructure to support scalable, data-driven growth.

The Controller will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will oversee all accounting, finance, and compliance functions across both entities. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, optimizing cash and working capital management, and building a high‑performing finance function. The Controller will play a key role in transitioning the company from cash to accrual accounting, implementing NetSuite, and developing the financial processes and controls that sustain profitability and support continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month‑end close.

Manage cash flow, working capital, and forecasting to ensure optimal liquidity and financial stability.

Lead the transition from cash‑basis to accrual accounting and oversee an ongoing NetSuite ERP implementation.

Prepare and review GAAP‑compliant financial statements, and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.

Implement and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.

Manage project and job costing processes, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, margins, and profitability.

Oversee inventory management, subcontractor compliance, and commission calculations.

Partner cross‑functionally with operations, sales, and executive leadership to provide financial analysis and performance insights.

Ensure compliance with state and federal tax requirements, including sales and use tax (SALT) and payroll tax filings.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A activities to guide decision‑making and strategic planning.

Drive continuous improvement in systems, reporting, and financial processes.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with prior experience in construction or other project‑based industries required (solar/renewables a plus).

Deep understanding of GAAP, job costing, and financial reporting for construction‑in‑progress (CIP) projects.

Experience with NetSuite and QuickBooks required; ERP implementation experience strongly preferred.

Proven track record in cash management, working capital optimization, and forecasting.

Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards preferred.

Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and highly collaborative approach to working with all departments.
