Position Summary Provides instructional guidance and program activities related to health and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user/customer needs. Educates participants on fitness and health‑related topics; conducts fitness assessments and personal training sessions, maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Designs and implements individual workout programs, demonstrates and coaches clients on the proper use of cardiovascular and strength equipment, and promotes safe technique and form when training.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced or specialized activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups. Trainers provide sessions at the RSF, other campus locations, or virtually through live‑streamed and on‑demand content.

Appropriately program/periodize strength, cardiovascular, flexibility, balance, speed/agility/quickness, plyometrics, and core training. Work with students, faculty/staff, and community members and modify training for client needs, including appropriate progressions and regressions.

Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment; facilitate participation through energizing, fun, and safe sessions for all fitness levels.

Answer participant questions to support healthy living and wellness goals. Build authentic relationships with members and facilitate community connections.

Ensure fitness spaces are safe, including proper storage of equipment. Instruct clients on correct equipment usage and body mechanics.

Update availability in the Mindbody scheduling software. Provide weekly availability for client appointments and track client progress and records.

Maintain required professional certifications (e.g., CRR/AED) and pursue continuing education and professional development.

Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of program activity practices and required procedures.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multitasking, and time‑management.

Service orientation, program management, sound judgment, and ability to make decisions independently.

Effective verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.

Client‑service minded, entrepreneurial spirit, and creative thinking.

Basic computer knowledge.

Previous experience with instruction of fitness and recreation programs.

Experience working with age‑specific activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Health coaching experience.

Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.

Education

High school diploma and/or equivalent certification, experience, or training.

Salary & Benefits This is a 10% FTE, 12‑month, part‑time (4 hours/week) contract appointment, not eligible for UC benefits. The budgeted hourly range is $18.07 – $55.00, based on experience, skills, and other factors. Salary offers are determined by final candidate qualifications and experience.
