Summary of Job Duties:
The successful candidate will lead a comprehensive statewide extension program of excellence in wildlife management. Emphasis areas will include upland game bird management and nuisance/invasive wildlife issues in addition to wildlife management issues that address stakeholder needs and complement efforts of fellow natural resources extension and research team members. The candidate should develop educational programs for landowners, hunters, residential homeowners, natural resources professionals, county Extension agents, and 4-H youth. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders effectively through site visits, field tours, workshops, extension publications and online content.
The incumbent will be expected to have a statewide program, integrate county agents into extension efforts, respond to agent questions, develop effective training programs, and create demonstration projects to support extension efforts. Collaboration with extension and research colleagues, both within AFRC and across disciplines, is essential. The candidate will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed outlets, extension publications, web-based media, and popular press, and to generate program support through extramural funding from various sources including state and federal grants and foundation/industry grants.
The incumbent will join an innovative team of researchers and extension specialists with strong connections to Arkansas natural resources and stakeholders. Opportunities exist to work with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, including AFRC, UA System research and extension locations, and the UA main campus in Fayetteville. Stakeholder support for this position is strong, and engagement with producers and professional groups is expected.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in a natural resources-related field, with at least one degree related to wildlife or wildlife management, is required (by date of hire). Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required skills include the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical information to a non-technical audience orally and in writing, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and collegial work environment. Flexibility to travel throughout the state is required; traversing forested terrain with diverse topography in a variety of climate conditions is associated with the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include experience planning and implementing wildlife management programs with private forest landowners, state forestry or wildlife agencies, or other wildlife management practitioners, certification as a natural resource professional by The Wildlife Society or state registration board, and demonstrated knowledge of the land-grant mission and role of Extension.
