Summary

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Research Nurse assists in the identification, recruitment, and follow‑up of patients participating in a clinical research project. The role promotes, explains, and implements clinical investigation studies. The nurse collects data and monitors patients’ programs, ensuring adherence to established protocols, recommending changes when indicated, and may administer medications or perform other related functions as part of study requirements. Responsibilities

Assist the research physician in identifying patients meeting criteria for specific clinical investigations. Contact appropriate physicians to explain studies and gain cooperation. Facilitate obtaining informed consent from patients following guidelines set by the Patient Protection Committee. Establish and maintain records for each participant, abstracting pertinent information from medical records. Maintain regular contact with patients and healthcare team members to monitor protocol adherence, reviewing records and data sheets, and alert the physician to due laboratory studies or follow‑up data. Directly contact patients to administer medications, obtain specimens, perform EKGs, or perform other study‑related functions as appropriate. Continuously evaluate patients’ response to treatment and alert the healthcare or research team to any abnormalities or problems. Maintain and enhance professional expertise through participation in educational activities. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or RN licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Professional knowledge to assess patient eligibility and treatment response. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and researchers. Organizational ability to develop and maintain study records. Analytical ability to assess abnormalities or protocol problems. Experience:

At least one year of staff nursing experience in an area related to the specific research project. Up to three months of on‑the‑job training to become familiar with research projects. Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Some exposure to patient care environments; occasional walking between patient care areas. Pay Range
