Job Overview The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is seeking a

System Administrator II

with advanced expertise in

Microsoft Hyper‑V

and enterprise storage systems to join our infrastructure team. This position plays a key role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing our virtualized environments and storage platforms that support critical museum operations.

Job Class:

Full Time

Hiring Range:

$80 K – $90 K

Work Schedule:

M–F with ability to participate in on‑call rotation within the System Administrators Team.

Location:

May be scheduled to work remotely up to 2 days/week after a 6‑month onboarding period.

Essential Duties

Architect and manage Hyper‑V clusters, implement failover clustering, optimize resources, and perform advanced performance tuning.

Lead VM lifecycle management from deployment through decommissioning.

Design and maintain Veeam backup and recovery strategies for critical systems.

Manage complex storage networking including SAN, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel; implement and troubleshoot multipathing for optimal redundancy.

Monitor system health and performance; produce capacity forecasting and optimization reports.

Develop and maintain detailed documentation for virtualization and storage procedures.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on infrastructure planning, upgrades, and integrations.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

3 years’ experience in system, network and enterprise backup systems administration and troubleshooting.

3 years’ advanced server operating system support including Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.

Ability to work during scheduled downtime; weekend and holiday on‑call duty.

Ideal Candidate Will Be / Have

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

Experience: 3–5 years in system administration with direct virtualization and storage responsibilities.

Hyper‑V Expertise: Advanced proficiency with Hyper‑V clusters — failover configuration, resource allocation, live migration, and performance tuning.

Veeam Administration: Hands‑on experience managing Veeam Backup & Replication for Hyper‑V/VMware, including SOBR with immutable object storage, app‑aware backups, GFS/copy jobs, and tested DR recovery using Instant VM Recovery and SureBackup.

Storage Networking: Strong working knowledge of SAN, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel environments, including multipathing design and troubleshooting.

Azure Exposure: Understanding of Azure virtualization, networking, and hybrid integration concepts.

Analytical Skills: Proven ability to diagnose performance and availability issues across compute, storage, and backup layers.

Project Management: Demonstrated experience leading infrastructure initiatives through planning, implementation, and documentation phases.

Communication: Clear communicator able to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
