POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is seeking a Mid-level Transmission Planning Engineer. This position is posted in multiple POWER office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.
Roles And Responsibilities This role requires significant experience in network studies for utilities and ISOs with the ability to lead others in this work. The engineer will interface with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility transmission & distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems. Work includes feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, interconnection model development, power factor correction, and other related studies.
The level of this engineer requires an individual who has experience participating in the proposal writing process and enjoys customer contact to help develop new opportunities for POWER. This person must be able to self-manage time and have strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills, including the capability to explain complex technical issues at a variety of levels to decision-makers and project teams.
Required Education/Experience
Requires a BSEE
Five (5)+ years of experience in transmission planning system studies
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including writing proposals, reports, and additional technical communication as needed
Minimum three (3) years of experience with PSS/E
Experience with leading projects and mentoring others
Familiarity with ERCOT, its interconnection processes, and its system impact study requirements
Willing to travel (up to 10% at times)
Ability to work successfully in a customer‑focused, project-oriented environment
Desired Education/Experience
MSEE or PhD
Five (5)+ years experience with PSS/E
Seven to ten (7‑10) years of experience in transmission planning studies
Familiarity with additional RTOs regarding interconnection process and system impact studies
PE registration (or equivalent)
Additional desirable software: PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, Power World and others as applicable
Coding experience and automation development
