Transmission Planning & Studies Engineer - Mid Level

We are seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer for our Denver, CO office. You will be involved in projects with our SCADA and Analytical Services Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

Lead network studies for utilities and ISOs, guiding others in this work.

Interface with other engineers to prepare computer‑based models and perform power system studies on utility transmission and distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.

Conduct feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short‑range planning studies, short‑circuit, load flow, interconnection model development, power factor correction, and other related studies.

Manage time independently and communicate complex technical issues clearly to decision‑makers and project teams.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

5 to 7 years of relevant post‑education experience in transmission planning.

Engineer in Training Certification.

Minimum three (3) years of experience with PSS/E.

Experience leading projects and mentoring others.

Familiarity with ERCOT, its interconnection processes, and its system impact study requirements.

Willing to travel (up to 10%).

Ability to work successfully in a customer‑focused, project‑oriented environment.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

MSEE or PhD.

Five (5)+ years experience with PSS/E.

Seven to ten (7‑10) years of experience in transmission planning studies.

Familiarity with additional RTOs regarding interconnection process and system impact studies.

PE registration (or equivalent).

Additional desirable software: PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, Power World and others as applicable.

Coding experience and automation development.
