Client Office Phlebotomist (Float)
– Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.
Full‑time, 40‑hour week. Works Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5 pm and two weekends per month. Requires travel to client sites in downtown Chicago and Northside of Chicago. Salary range: $18.82–$25.41 per hour, including float differential.
Responsibilities
Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collection per age‑related standards.
Provide appropriate post‑phlebotomy patient care and identify medical assistance needs.
Record refrigerator temperature and QC/QA records; report findings to supervisor.
Use manual requisitions and label specimens appropriately.
Label and process specimens according to established protocols and policies.
Collect blood specimens from infants, adults, geriatric, and wheelchair‑bound patients, demonstrating competency for age‑related responsibilities.
Maintain equipment operation and documentation; follow up on outstanding orders and communicate results to client office staff.
Prioritize tasks, multi‑task, and meet a less than 2% recollection or cancellation rate.
Follow TJC national patient safety goals, wash hands, and use two patient identifiers.
Present a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
Communicate effectively with patients, customers, and coworkers; demonstrate teamwork.
Manage work schedule efficiently; participate in efforts to reduce costs and improve services.
Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all laboratory safety, ethical, and organizational policies.
Perform clerical duties related to handling and processing lab specimens (faxing, printing, filing, reviewing, releasing results).
Travel to additional sites when needed.
Qualifications – Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school, medical institution, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types.
Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.
Familiarity with medical EMR systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
