The Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pneumatic and electronic controls, heating and cooling facilities, and performs general maintenance work on HVAC equipment.
Essential Functions
Assist other crafts on shutdowns involving heating and cooling and power supply for refrigerated systems.
Perform chemical treatment of water on the heating and cooling loop to prevent corrosion and scale formation.
Test water quality in the system.
Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, recommend changes to improve efficiency.
Install new air conditioning units and systems, connect required services, and test for proper operation.
Install, calibrate, and maintain manual, automatic pneumatic and electronic controls on all HVAC equipment.
Seek assistance for complex electronics or pneumatic controls when needed.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work area.
Prepare requisitions for supplies or materials needed for authorized work.
Perform welding, brazing, and soldering on HVAC equipment.
Repair, maintain, and diagnose problems with centralized air handling units, including refrigerant units and walk‑in boxes, cold rooms, and chillers.
Respond to heating or cooling complaints and adjust systems to maintain comfort levels.
Test and balance heating, cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning to meet specifications and code requirements.
Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, including necessary licenses or certifications.
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience
Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
License/Certification
EPA608 – HVAC Universal Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency.
HVAC Freon Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Knowledge
Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity.
Ability to operate standard tools, instruments, and equipment.
Planning, organizing, prioritizing, working independently, and meeting deadlines.
Reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches.
Problem solving and solution identification.
Effective oral and written communication.
Working in a fast‑paced environment.
Collaborating with individuals at all levels.
Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area.
Understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair.
Physical Requirements
Some physical effort in repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment.
Exposure to working conditions where minor abrasions, bruises, and burns may occur.
Occasional work inside close and dirty spaces.
Additional Information Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $57.73 to $65.45
