Job Description Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building, maintaining, and operating sophisticated hardware and software systems. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless integration and performance of our cutting‑edge technologies. As a Systems Engineer at Parsons, you will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of Linux‑based software across various platforms, including bare metal hardware, virtual machines (VMs), and containers. You will play a critical role in supporting new software releases, troubleshooting complex system issues, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our systems. Your ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and provide timely solutions will be essential to our success.

What You’ll Be Doing

Perform operations and maintenance of Linux‑based software running on a variety of bare metal hardware, VMs, and containers.

Support new software releases by testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and providing expertise during installation, configuration, and deployment:

Test proposed releases on a production‑like test bed prior to field installation.

Promptly respond to reported problems during and after deployment to resolve issues or identify next steps; frequently communicate status and priorities to the development team and leadership.

Troubleshoot complex system issues and performance bottlenecks; determine root‑cause analysis for discrepancies and defects found in a release.

Work with the test team to ensure any field defects are included in subsequent regression testing.

During release development, assist systems integration and testing activities, including documentation and reporting of results.

Collaborate with customers, developers, and testers to gather requirements, resolve issues, and ensure successful system deployments.

Provide occasional on‑call support outside of normal business hours.

Set up test environments, including installing software packages on Linux platforms or configuring hardware/networking components for internal and customer test environments.

Required Skills You’ll Bring

Top Secret/Sci Security Clearance with Polygraph required.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering, technical, or scientific discipline.

5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Experience with scripting languages such as Python or BASH.

Extensive knowledge and experience using the Linux command line, with expertise in the following:

Advanced file operations

Managing systemd services

Remote navigation and file operation

Writing and debugging shell scripts (using BASH)

Setting up and managing cron jobs for task automation

Basic system monitoring and performance tuning

Managing software repositories and dependencies

Experience analyzing networking protocols using Wireshark.

Position will be based primarily at the Parsons office in Centreville, VA. Occasional local travel to customer sites will be required.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens to be considered for the position.

Desired Skills You’ll Bring

Experience testing and debugging issues with client/server web‑based applications.

Experience deploying, configuring, and using virtual machine environments (VMware, libvirt, etc.).

Experience with Docker/Podman containers.

Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and performance testing networking devices (switches, routers, etc.).

Experience with Kafka, OpenSearch, Grafana, InfluxDB.

Advanced knowledge of the OSI model, analyzing networking protocols using Wireshark.

Security Clearance Requirement An active Top Secret Sci w/Polygraph security clearance is required for this position. This position is part of our Federal Solutions team, delivering resources to U.S. government customers and supporting critical national missions.

Salary Range: $120,800.00 - $217,400.00
