Job Description Summary:
The Director educates the GW community on maintaining a healthy, safe university environment through adherence to policies and the law. The Director enforces an approach to student conduct that protects the community, supports those affected by violations, and recognizes the importance of developmental responses to inappropriate behavior.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of 5‑7 professionals, supervising the Associate and Assistant Directors and overseeing day‑to‑day academic and non‑academic conduct caseloads.
Oversee the review and processing of all referrals for violations of the Code of Student Conduct and the Code of Academic Integrity, including those from external law enforcement entities.
Ensure parties understand rights, responsibilities, and options within university processes; communicate outcomes and appeal processes to students and families.
Lead training of the CESA team, students, faculty, and staff, including members of the Integrity and Conduct Council.
Collaborate with university partners on conflict management initiatives—mediation, restorative practices, constructive dialogue, and conflict coaching—focused on enhancing student learning experiences.
Maintain Maxient conduct record‑keeping system, ensuring file security and compliance with university policies and applicable laws.
Implement university compliance requirements such as the Clery Act, FERPA, Title VI, Title IX, the Drug‑Free Schools Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Build and maintain working relationships with campus partners including the Office of the Provost, GW Police Department, Title IX Office, Office of Access and Opportunity, Office of General Counsel, academic schools and programs, and the Division for Student Affairs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or Master’s degree or higher plus 6 years of experience.
Experience working in a diverse, fast‑paced higher education environment.
History of resolving interpersonal conflicts and guiding individuals who need assistance.
Experience with university public safety, student counseling, alcohol and other drug education, and residence life staff.
Excellent administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to embrace a data‑driven approach to strategically enhance office work.
Experience mentoring and supervising staff.
Knowledge of applicable laws (Clery Act, FERPA, Title VI, Title IX, Drug‑Free Schools Act, Higher Education Act, DMMCA).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience designing and implementing training for diverse audiences.
Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education, conflict resolution, social work, law).
