Overview At Northrop Grumman, we work on revolutionary systems that impact people’s lives worldwide. The Defense Systems (DS) division is hiring a Principal Hardware Mechanical Engineer to join the Sentinel Program’s Command and Control (C2) Hardware Engineering team. You will support hardware, electrical, and mechanical engineers in designing a diverse set of custom and commercial‑off‑the‑shelf systems and components.
Responsibilities
Incorporate edits and redlines to existing designs.
Facilitate the ingestion of supplier drawings into the Sentinel program tool set and workflow.
Develop basic data and produce preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
Investigate pertinent design factors such as manufacturability, material availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength‑weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements; coordinate with affected organizations.
Create layouts of complex assemblies and detailed parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures; check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies, and recommend revisions or improvements to responsible engineers or designers.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with 5 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 year of experience.
U.S. citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance and investigation date within the last 6 years.
Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
Experience performing CAD modeling with Siemens NX or similar design tools.
Experience with CPLM Teamcenter or similar.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Experience working with commercial‑off‑the‑shelf hardware and suppliers.
Ability to understand and interpret requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing direction.
Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and succinctly.
Exposure to missile program requirements, including propulsion.
Proficient with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in NX.
Proficient with PDM and/or CPLM.
Knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009.
Salary Range Primary Level Salary Range: $86,600.00 – $136,800.00.
