The Defense Systems (DS) has an opening for a Principal Hardware Mechanical Engineer. This position is a required on-site position, located at our Defense Systems location in Colorado Springs, Colorado or Roy, UT.
This position will join the Sentinel Program’s Command and Control (C2) Hardware Engineering team. This position will support a team of Hardware, Electrical, and Mechanical responsible engineers in the design of a diverse set of custom and commercial-off-the-shelf systems and components.
Responsibilities
Incorporates edits and redlines to existing designs
Facilitates ingest of supplier drawings into the Sentinel program tool set and workflow.
Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and with 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 year of experience
Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
Experience performing CAD modeling with design tools such as Siemens NX or similar
Experience with CPLM Teamcenter or similar
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of tools - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
Experience working with COTS hardware and suppliers
Ability to understand and interpret requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts
Exposure to missiles program requirements & with propulsion
Proficient with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in NX
Proficient with PDM and/or CPLM
Proficient with GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009
Salary and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $86,600.00 - $136,800.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Employees in vice president or director positions may be eligible for long-term incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
