Title of Position Assistant Dean, Pre-Professional Advising
Reporting Reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate STEM Education, the Assistant Dean for Pre‑Professional Advising provides guidance and support to undergraduate students pursuing careers in professional fields such as medicine, law, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health or graduate programs. The advisor assists students in academic planning, career exploration, and preparation for professional school applications.
Essential Functions
Advises pre‑professional students on academic requirements, course selection, extracurricular engagement, and application timelines.
Guides students in developing competitive applications for professional schools, including personal statements, interviews, letters of recommendation, and standardized test preparation (e.g., MCAT, LSAT, GRE).
Coordinates and leads workshops, information sessions, and panels on pre‑professional topics.
Stays current with trends, changes, and best practices in admissions to professional programs.
Collaborates with faculty, student organizations, and campus departments to promote pre‑professional student development.
Maintains accurate advising records and tracks student progress.
Serves as a liaison with professional schools and external partners to facilitate information sharing and networking opportunities, including experiential learning.
Participates in new student orientation, open house events, and other recruitment or retention initiatives.
Supports diverse student populations, including underrepresented and first‑generation college students, in accessing pre‑professional opportunities.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, career services, or student support.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of pre‑professional academic pathways and professional school application processes.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in a student‑centered environment.
Experience advising pre‑health or pre‑law students specifically.
Ability to use advising technologies (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, and web management systems).
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with application systems (AMCAS, AACOMAS, CASPA, LSAC, etc.).
Event planning or program development experience.
Salary Minimum Starting Salary $75,000
Maximum Starting Salary $90,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
