Position Overview As a Lead Counselor you will provide leadership to other counselors, manage an individual caseload, participate in facility committees, and carry out management duties as directed by the Clinical Supervisor/Director. You will also assist with problem‑solving, conflict resolution, readiness for state and CARF visits, and other assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other documentation in accordance with federal, state, and agency standards.

Provide patients with orientation on program objectives, phase requirements, rules, sanctions, patient rights, and related information.

Assess and place patients according to treatment phases per federal and state standards.

Maintain all clinical documentation and patient charts per established policies.

Counsel patients in crisis situations, identifying resources and coping strategies.

Counsel patients refusing program requirements to increase awareness of non‑compliance consequences.

Arrange referrals to community agencies when appropriate.

Perform treatment plan reviews and participate in case conferences and reviews.

Review counselor documentation and sign off as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Director.

Assist in overall direction and development of substance abuse services.

Participate in treatment team meetings and grievance hearings as needed.

Conduct or assist with weekly staff meetings with the counseling team.

Oversee ongoing review of counselor case files to ensure compliance with federal, state, and PTC requirements.

Assist the Clinical Supervisor/Director with annual performance reviews and state/CARF inspections.

Provide in‑service training to clinical teammates on a regular basis.

Monitor clinical records, conduct mock inspections, and perform intakes on new patients.

Develop comprehensive treatment plans and provide guidance to counselors managing complex patients.

Maintain accurate case files for each patient and team caseload per regulatory requirements.

Oversee substance abuse counseling case assignments and discharges.

Attend team meetings and complete all required training courses timely.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$27–$31 per hour

Qualifications

Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor from a CA‑approved agency or current credentials as licensed or license‑eligible with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology.

If license‑eligible, maintain Board requirements, including required clinical supervision from a Board‑approved supervisor.

Proof of licensure or certification by a state‑approved regulatory agency required immediately upon employment.

Experience in patient evaluation, treatment planning, and counseling services.

Knowledge of drug and addiction treatment.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Professional demeanor and customer‑service orientation.

Competence with standard Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership qualities among counseling team.

Advanced clinical skills with ability to share expertise.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Services or related field.

Licenses & Certifications: CCAPP, CADAC III, CADAC II, CADAC I, CAADC, LMFT.

Team‑player attitude and strong attention to detail.
