Position Summary
The General Manager of Operations provides strategic direction and executive oversight for all mine and plant operations across multiple states. This leader delivers production, maintenance, quality, safety, logistics, and environmental compliance, ensuring operational excellence and alignment with company growth objectives. The role emphasizes excellent performance, disciplined management, and a strong safety and accountability culture across all locations.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement an operational strategy that maximizes efficiency, reliability, and profitability across multiple mining and processing operations
Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to establish and achieve long-term production and growth objectives
Lead strategic initiatives related to capital projects, process standardization, and operational improvements
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, productivity, cost control, and quality across all operating sites
Develop people, skills, and capacity
Operational Management
Provide direct leadership and direction to plant managers, mine superintendents, and regional operations leaders
Oversee production scheduling, maintenance programs, and process optimization to meet tonnage and quality targets
Drive consistent operational standards and best practices across all sites
Ensure effective coordination between operations, technical services, and sales teams
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
Manage toward eliminating accidents, injuries and citations
Champion a proactive safety culture and enforcing strict adherence to company, MSHA, OSHA, and environmental regulations
Oversee all environmental management, reclamation, and sustainability programs
Promote accountability for safe work behaviors, risk reduction, and continuous safety improvement
Build a culture of responsibility and transparency in all operational and compliance activities
Financial & Performance Management
Manage business to optimize margins
Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for each site and region
Monitor and analyze operational performance data to ensure cost efficiency, productivity, and profitability
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, production improvements, and asset utilization strategies
Provide accurate operational and financial reporting to the CEO
Leadership & Talent Development
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing operations leadership team
Foster collaboration, communication, and accountability across all mine and plant operations
Support workforce development, training, and succession planning to ensure bench strength in critical operational roles
Reinforce a performance-driven, safety-conscious, and people-first culture consistent with company values
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field
Master in Business Administration is beneficial
Minimum 15 years of progressive operations leadership experience within mining, minerals, aggregates, or similar heavy industrial environments
Proven success leading multi-site operations with full P&L accountability
Deep understanding of mine planning, processing, maintenance, and logistics
Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, standardize operations, and drive measurable results
Strong financial, analytical, and leadership skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all levels
Willingness and ability to travel frequently to multiple operational sites

Compensation $190,000-$215,000 per year
