Who We’re Looking For We seek two qualified candidates with a strong background in Medical Dosimetry, particularly those with Proton therapy experience. If you are eager to wear many hats and contribute to diverse lines of service, we encourage you to apply!

What You Will Do

Design an optimized patient treatment plan with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription.

Identify and contour normal and dose‑limiting structures using image registration across CT, MRI, and PET.

Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery.

Supervise simulations and tumor localization using CT, MRI, and PET.

Plan and implement fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam‑modifying devices.

Plan and implement production of moulds, casts, and other immobilization devices.

Communicate with radiation therapists to ensure proper use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, and field arrangement.

Perform calculations for accurate dose delivery, document all pertinent information, and verify mathematical accuracy by an approved method.

Provide assistance and technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation safety, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of treatment plans.

Operate and perform quality assurance on the treatment planning computer(s).

Assist in brachytherapy procedures and in the receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials.

Utilize radiation monitoring devices to measure radioactivity and perform assays.

Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students, radiation therapists, and residents.

Assist or provide technical or physics support to the medical physicist in radiation protection, equipment calibrations, and quality assurance practices.

Participate in clinical research, continuing education, quality improvement processes, and other related duties as needed.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

Met by being employed in the classification of Senior Dosimetrist (job title discontinued) with Stanford Health Care as of 08/31/14.

Possesses any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Chief Dosimetrist and Director of Radiation Oncology that he/she meets the specific eligibility criteria of the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (www.mdcb.org) currently in effect to sit for the CMD certification examination within two (2) years of appointment.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, tumor pathology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.

Knowledge of medical dosimetry techniques and procedures.

Ability to develop optimal treatment plans and communicate these to the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapist.

Knowledge of healthcare informatics and data acquisition, storage, and retrieval methods.

Proficiency in personal computer and business software applications used in treatment planning.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interaction.

Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to perform quality assurance on treatment planning systems.

Independently work with minimal supervision, consulting with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as needed.

Knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulations.

Ability to interpret treatment protocols and develop treatment plans accordingly.

Mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.

Ability to visualize three‑dimensional concepts for treatment planning.

Base Pay Scale Generally starting at $79.21 – $104.97 per hour.
