Your Opportunity Stantec’s Environmental Services practice seeks a Senior Acoustics/Noise Consultant to support our expanding U.S. environmental noise, vibration, and acoustics (NVA) practice. In this role, you will collaborate with scientists and engineers supporting clients in renewable energy, power generation, data centers, oil and gas, site development, transportation, industrial, and federal markets. The NVA team provides services throughout project development, from conceptual design to post‑construction evaluations, including planning, design, noise/vibration monitoring, noise modeling, permitting, public outreach, expert witness, and post‑construction studies.
This opportunity is flexible within our U.S. office locations, including Plymouth (MN), Chicago (IL), Madison (WI), Detroit (MI), Atlanta (GA), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oklahoma City (OK), Tampa (FL).
Your Key Responsibilities
Manage noise/acoustics projects from proposal through completion, ensuring on schedule and within scope and budget.
Lead or supervise staff completing field measurements, technical analyses, modeling, and reporting.
Analyze and interpret acoustical modeling results, evaluate mitigation measures, and prepare technical reports.
Present at public meetings and serve as expert witness on acoustics projects.
Train junior staff in field work, analysis, modeling, and report preparation.
Support the expansion of NVA team acoustics service offerings.
Assist client relationship, business development, and marketing activities.
Pursue professional growth through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience in environmental acoustics/noise assessments is required.
Experience with natural gas pipeline and compressor station noise studies (e.g., FERC requirements) is preferred.
Experience with acoustic measurement practices, software, and instrumentation is required.
Experience with acoustical modeling software (e.g., CadnaA or similar) and technical tools (spreadsheets, GIS, AutoCAD) is required.
Proficiency managing multiple concurrent projects.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
Willingness to travel periodically for field work, including multi‑day trips across the United States.
Strong work ethic, high ethical and quality standards, and team orientation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with vibration, underwater noise (hydroacoustics), transportation noise modeling, and building acoustics is beneficial.
Familiarity with scientific programming languages for data processing (e.g., MATLAB, Python) is beneficial.
Education and Experience
Minimum bachelor’s degree in acoustics, engineering, physical sciences, or related field. Master’s degree is beneficial. Coursework in acoustics preferred.
Professional Engineer license or Board Certification by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering is beneficial.
Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in acoustics and noise assessments.
Office Environment and Travel Typical office environment involves long periods of computer work and sedentary tasks. Field work may involve exposure to elements, including inclement weather.
Pay Range
Locations in MN, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas – Minimum $107,100.00 – Maximum $160,700.00.
Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas – Minimum $117,800.00 – Maximum $176,800.00.
