Title Director of Elementary Education
Reports To Assistant Superintendent
Takes Direction From Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent
Calendar 12 month
Summary The Director of Elementary Education provides instructional leadership and direct supervision to all elementary principals to ensure high standards and meet performance targets. This position is responsible for overseeing K-6 educational programs and instruction, ensuring program alignment, and using data analysis to drive continuous school improvement and to provide strategic recommendations to the Superintendent. This position also serves as the key liaison between elementary schools and the central office and is a member of the Superintendent's cabinet.
Essential Functions
Coaches, supports, supervises, and evaluates all elementary principals in goal setting, planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of action plans to meet instructional leadership objectives and performance targets.
Provides leadership and vision in the creation, implementation, and supervision of the District's elementary educational programs, school services, and operations, ensuring continuous organizational development and improvement, and making recommendations to the Superintendent as necessary.
Coordinates and ensures the implementation of curriculum development and instructional improvement for all students in grades K-6, working closely with the curriculum department.
Ensures that all elementary educational programs are vertically and horizontally articulated, working closely with the Assistant Superintendent and regularly coordinating with the Director of Secondary Education regarding instruction, testing, and school policies.
Analyzes elementary education data, meets regularly with principals for collaborative review, and provides recommendations to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for short- and long-range improvements.
Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic performance.
Coordinates and communicates information on elementary programs, services, and regulations to school personnel, parents, the Board, community, and external districts.
Assists with the review, evaluation, and development of district-wide testing programs and elementary assessments.
Provides guidance and oversight in the budgetary process for elementary schools.
Serves as the primary liaison between elementary principals and the central office, providing expertise in elementary education best practices based on research.
Collaborates effectively with the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum and Equity, and other district staff to develop curricular and instructional initiatives that promote student engagement and achievement.
Assists with key elementary planning and support functions, including the development of school comprehensive improvement plans, boundary realignment, and district staffing.
Assists with K-12 administrative functions, including but not limited to overseeing registration and supporting the K-12 Supervision and Evaluation program for professional staff.
Assists in the recruitment and selection of elementary administrators and educators.
Serves on the Superintendent's cabinet, cooperates with cabinet members on operational matters, and is willing to chair district committees as assigned.
Serves as one of the Title IX decision-makers.
Performs other functions as directed by the Assistant Superintendent or their representative.
Education And/or Certification Required
Bachelor’s degree required, with a degree in Elementary Education preferred.
Graduate of Master’s and/or Doctoral program with specialization in Educational Administration and Supervision.
PDE Principal Certificate and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility.
Experience Needed
At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
Five (5) years of successful school-based administration and management experience, elementary principal experience preferred.
Demonstrated successful experience in providing leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of the design and delivery of elementary services.
Knowledge Of
Child development and learning theories.
PA Academic Standards and the District curriculum frameworks.
Assessment strategies.
Current research and effective instructional practices, strategies and programs.
Requisite Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and nurture working relationships with various stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong computer skills, specifically with Google Suite.
